Universidad Católica del Ecuador beat Manta FC 5-1 in Serie A. Mauricio Alonso scored twice as the home side took control with two goals just before half-time after Manta had briefly levelled.
Alonso opened the scoring in the 20th minute with Daniel Clavijo assisting. Jostin Alman equalised for Manta ten minutes later, but José Fajardo restored the lead on 44 minutes and Darwin Nazareno made it 3-1 in first-half stoppage time. Alonso added his second on 54 minutes and Mauro Díaz completed the rout four minutes later.
The margin reflected the balance of play: Católica had 64% possession and 24 shots to Manta's six, with 13 on target. Manta's goalkeeper made nine saves but could not prevent the heavy defeat. Alonso was the standout, scoring two goals and setting up Díaz's strike.
