Universidad Católica del Ecuador edged Barcelona SC 2-1 in Serie A, snatching victory with an 89th-minute winner. They dominated possession and created far more chances, but needed a late goal to break Barcelona's resistance.
José Fajardo headed them ahead after three minutes from Mauro Díaz's cross. Jhonnier Chala levelled for Barcelona in the 61st minute, finishing Tomás Martínez's pass. Just as a draw loomed, Díaz again supplied the cross and Eric Valencia nodded in from close range in the 89th minute.
The numbers show how much Universidad controlled the game—66% possession, 21 total shots to 11, and eight corners to two. Mauro Díaz's two assists were decisive, while Barcelona's goalkeeper made six saves to keep his side in it before the late blow.
