Universidad Católica del Ecuador edged LDU 1-0 in Serie A, thanks to a second-half strike from Mauro Díaz. The home side held firm after taking the lead, even as LDU pushed for an equaliser and finished with ten men.
The only goal came in the 59th minute when Mauro Díaz found the net to make it 1-0. LDU's task became harder on 73 minutes when Fernando Cornejo was sent off for a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men for the final quarter of the match.
LDU had 14 shots to Universidad Católica's nine, but only one of those was on target compared to three for the home side. Universidad Católica also controlled possession with 56% and committed just six fouls against LDU's 16.
