Técnico Universitario edged a scrappy Serie A contest against Manta FC, winning 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Heuyín Guardia. The match was overshadowed by a red card shown before kick-off, leaving Manta down to ten men from the very start.
Guardia broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, converting from close range to give Técnico the lead. The game was littered with bookings – eight yellows in total – as tempers frayed, with Glendys Mina, Walter Chavez, Brian Ramirez, Cesar Castano, Jean Carlos Blanco, Jefferson Nazareno, Jostin Alman and Octavio Moscarelli all cautioned.
Técnico dominated possession (57%) and fired 15 shots, five on target, while Manta managed only seven attempts. The visitors actually created the game's only big chance but missed it, and goalkeeper saves were even at three apiece. Técnico had far more of the ball but needed just one moment to settle it.
