Manta FC beat Deportivo Cuenca 2-1 in Serie A, taking the points despite conceding the bulk of possession and chances. Juan Nazareno's opener and Joaquín Vergés's late strike gave the visitors a win they had to withstand considerable pressure to secure.
Nazareno put Manta ahead in the 15th minute after a Robert Burbano assist. Lucas Mancinelli equalised for Cuenca in the 44th minute, and Vergés restored the lead with his 84th-minute winner.
Cuenca had 65% possession and 27 shots to Manta's eight, yet found themselves behind. Manta's goalkeeper made eight saves to hold out, while Nazareno was booked in the 45th minute.
