Austin FC II started brightly and went ahead in the 14th minute when Stefan Dobrijevic finished from Jules Bery's assist. Daniel Cervantes equalised for Portland in the 59th minute. Alex Bamford then scored the decider in the 90th minute, with Nicklas Lund providing the assist. The closing stages also featured two red cards, to Diego Abarca and Bryce Vanvoorhis.
Austin had the greater share of possession, 55%, and created four big chances to Portland's three. Yet Portland registered 18 shots to Austin's eight and converted three of their efforts on target into two goals. The home side's expected-goals total of 2.19 also edged Austin's 1.63, underlining the narrow margin on the day.
