Pittsburgh Riverhounds beat Charleston Battery 3-1 in the USL Championship, largely thanks to a fast start and clinical finishing. They scored twice in the opening 16 minutes, and although Charleston pulled one back, the home side always had enough in hand.
Trevor Amann opened the scoring after two minutes, turning in an assist from Jackson Walti. Danny Griffin made it 2-0 on 16 minutes after Amann turned provider. Charleston responded through Douglas Martínez two minutes later, assisted by Nathan Messer, but Victor Souza restored the two-goal cushion on 61 minutes with Samuel Bassett assisting. Martínez was then sent off for a second yellow card in the 81st minute.
The visitors dominated the ball with 72% possession and edged the shot count 10-8, yet Pittsburgh were far more clinical, putting five shots on target to Charleston's two. Pittsburgh created three big chances and scored two, while Charleston created none. The hosts also took six corners to Charleston's three, though the Charleston goalkeeper made three saves.
