Kacper Wehnelt recovered from losing a tiebreak first set to beat Michal Zielinski 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 in Szczecin. The serve was the difference after the opener: Wehnelt hit 15 aces to Zielinski's one and landed 64% of first serves against 49%.
The first set was a break-fest, with six breaks in a row from 2-3 to 5-5 before Zielinski took the tiebreak. Wehnelt then broke immediately at 1-0 in the second and again at 5-2, and in the decider he broke at 2-1 and 4-1 to pull clear while saving all three break points he faced.
The standout numbers belong to Wehnelt's second and third sets: 87% and 80% of first-serve points won, plus 20 return points in the second set against Zielinski's three. Overall Zielinski actually won more service points (58 to 51), but Wehnelt made six breaks to three and held nine of his 12 service games.
