Coco Gauff recovered from losing the first set to beat Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at Wimbledon. The American turned the match around by tightening her serve and saving break points at critical moments.
Pegula converted two break points in the opening set, including an early break in game one, to take the lead. Gauff broke back in the second set, saving all three break points she faced to level the match. In the decider, Gauff broke once and held firm to seal the win.
Gauff struck seven aces to Pegula’s two and saved 4 of 7 break points, while Pegula saved none of her four break points. Despite winning more receiver points overall, Pegula could not cope with Gauff’s 69% first-serve points won in the key moments.
