Udinese left Monza with a 3-2 win after a first-half burst that proved decisive. They led 3-1 by the interval and then withstood a late push from the hosts, who pulled one back but could not find an equaliser.
Jakub Piotrowski put Udinese ahead on 32 minutes, and Andrea Colpani levelled for Monza five minutes later. But Hassane Kamara and Jürgen Ekkelenkamp both scored in first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1, before Gustavo Varela reduced the deficit for Monza on 63 minutes.
The scoreline flattered Udinese on the underlying numbers: Monza created three big chances to Udinese's none and had a higher expected-goals total (1.53 to 0.87), yet both sides managed five shots on target. Udinese simply took their chances when it mattered.
