VPS edged out SJK 1-0 in a hard-fought Veikkausliiga contest, the only goal arriving early in the second half. Xavier Odhiambo's strike just after the break proved decisive in a match that saw seven yellow cards handed out.
Odhiambo fired VPS ahead in the 49th minute, settling a scrappy affair that had been goalless at half-time. The first half alone produced four bookings – Souleymane Bagayogo, Kelwin Souza do Nascimento, Martti Haukioja and Gonçalo Vieira all cautioned – and the tempo stayed physical throughout.
Odhiambo was both scorer and later booked himself (68th minute), while Kevin Kouassivi-Benissan and Lassana Mané also saw yellow. SJK could not find a reply, and VPS held on for a narrow victory.
