Peterborough United beat Watford 5-1 in the EFL Cup second round after taking a two-goal lead inside the first 23 minutes. Harry Leonard scored twice as the visitors built a five-goal advantage before Watford got a late consolation.
James Clarridge opened the scoring on 10 minutes and Harry Leonard made it 2-0 on 23. Leonard added his second on 51 minutes from Benjamin Woods' pass, Bolu Shofowoke made it 4-0 on 55, and Harrison Jones completed Peterborough's fifth on 64, again assisted by Woods. Mamadou Doumbia pulled a goal back for Watford on 73.
Watford had more of the ball, with 63% possession and 515 accurate passes to Peterborough's 279. Peterborough were more clinical, recording 10 shots on target to Watford's five and scoring four of their six big chances, while Harry Leonard's two goals proved decisive.
