Libertad beat Universidad Católica del Ecuador 2-1 in Serie A, taking the points despite seeing far less of the ball. Vilinton Branda and Enrique Caicedo put Libertad two ahead before Saenddy Yánez pulled one back late.
Branda opened the scoring in the 40th minute from Cristhian Valencia's assist, and Caicedo doubled the lead on 67 minutes with Carlos Orejuela providing the pass. Yánez set up a nervy finish with a goal in the 85th minute from José Fajardo's assist, but Libertad held on. Both sides finished with ten men after Johan Estacio and Gabriel Cortez were sent off in the 90th minute.
The stats show a side happy to soak up pressure: Universidad Católica had 66% possession and completed 511 passes to Libertad's 215, yet Libertad registered 19 shots to their opponents' 16 and created two big chances to none. Libertad's five saves helped keep the lead intact, and they took the points even though the visitors had the better of the ball.
