FC Universitatea Cluj edged out FCV Farul Constanța 2-1 in Liga I, despite being second best for long stretches. The home side scored twice in quick succession around half-time to build a lead, then held on after Farul pulled one back.
Alibek Aliev opened the scoring in the 43rd minute from Dan Nistor's assist, then turned provider for Mouhamadou Drammeh just four minutes into the second half. Iustin Doicaru replied for Farul in the 54th minute, finishing after Tony Njiké's pass, but the visitors could not find an equaliser.
The box score shows how dominant Farul were in possession (52%) and total shots (20-12, with four on target to Cluj's two). Yet they only converted one of their three big chances, while Cluj's goalkeeper made three saves to protect the win. It was a case of the home side taking their limited opportunities effectively.
