HC Sparta Prague U20 beat Trinec U20 3-2 in regulation, and they did it by never trailing. Sparta scored first in each of the three periods and forced Trinec to chase all night.
The opening period was the only one either side won outright, Sparta taking it 1-0 and carrying that lead to the first intermission. Trinec answered once in the second and once in the third, but each reply came after a Sparta goal, leaving the visitors at 1-2 after 40 minutes and 2-3 at the buzzer.
The decisive number is the periods: 1-0, 1-1, 1-1. Sparta needed only that first-period goal of margin, and a Trinec side that matched them over the final 40 minutes still ran out of runway.
