San Jose took this one 4-2 in Las Vegas, and the third period was the separator: after Vegas drew level, the Sharks answered twice in a five-minute window to close it out in regulation. Nothing about the finish required overtime.
Dmitry Orlov opened it at the 20th minute off a Macklin Celebrini feed, and Celebrini made it 0-2 at 27 with Mason Marchment assisting. Vegas got back in it through Tomas Hertl at 38 (Shea Theodore) and Nic Dowd at 44 (Brett Howden) to tie it 2-2, but Marchment scored at 50 from Darnell Nurse and Michael Misa finished it at 55, assisted by Igor Chernyshov.
Celebrini's two-point night — a goal and the primary assist on the opener — was the cleanest line on the sheet, and Marchment matched it with a goal and an assist. Vegas won the middle two periods 2-1 on the run of play by score, but the 0-1 and 1-2 period splits at either end decided it.
