Tacoma Defiance 2:1 Houston Dynamo 2 — Match Report

Gary RedknappGary RedknappFootball AnalystMATCH REPORT
Vinicius Silva scored the opener but Edson Carli struck the winner as Tacoma Defiance came from behind to beat Houston Dynamo 2 2-1, a result that sets up their next meeting with Portland Timbers II on July 6th. The home side were second best for long stretches but showed remarkable resilience to turn the match on its head inside three second-half minutes.
The turning point arrived swiftly after the interval when Mark Bronnik equalised from Charlie Gaffney's assist in the 47th minute, and before Houston could regroup, Edson Carli fired Tacoma ahead just two minutes later. Houston's early dominance had been rewarded through Vinicius Silva's 23rd-minute finish from Isaac Mwakutuya's pass, and they continued to press after the break, but Tacoma's defence held firm despite a flurry of yellow cards including one for Bronnik and another for Carli.
Houston Dynamo 2 were the better side in both halves and will feel aggrieved to leave with nothing. CheckLive's model clearly favoured Houston, but that prediction proved incorrect, and the live signals backing them at 1.57 also lost as the flow of the match was read wrong. Tacoma Defiance now host Portland Timbers II on July 6th.
