Sporting Kansas City II drew 2-2 with Colorado Rapids 2 in MLS Next Pro, but Colorado progressed, winning the penalty shootout 4-3. The home side led 2-0 at the break, only for Colorado to equalise with two goals in the final three minutes of normal time.
Tega Ikoba put Sporting ahead on 35 minutes, finishing from Missael Rodriguez's assist, and Blaine Mabie doubled the lead two minutes later. Grant Gilmore pulled one back for Colorado on 87 minutes, and Christopher Aquino levelled in the 90th to force the shootout. Gilmore had been booked inside seven minutes, one of five yellows in a competitive game.
Colorado dictated the attacking numbers, firing 24 shots to Sporting's 14 and posting a higher expected-goals figure (2.45-1.24), yet they needed a stoppage-time strike to rescue the match. Sporting held 52% possession and completed 393 passes, but Colorado's greater penetration told late on, with two goals from two big chances while Sporting missed two of their three.
