Sassuolo reached the Coppa Italia round of 16 by beating Frosinone 4-3 on penalties after the match finished 1-1. Benjamín Domínguez's opener was cancelled out by Aleksa Terzić before the break, and no further goals meant the shootout decided the tie.
Domínguez gave Sassuolo the lead in the 36th minute, but Frosinone responded in first-half stoppage time when Terzić converted Luis Hasa's assist to make it 1-1. The second half brought chances at both ends but no goals, leaving the sides inseparable after 90 minutes.
Frosinone were the more lively side in open play, with 15 shots to Sassuolo's seven and 52% possession. They also carved out five big chances to Sassuolo's four, yet they could not win the tie, and six saves from Sassuolo's goalkeeper were a major reason the game went to penalties.
