Austin FC had to settle for a draw after San Jose Earthquakes took an early lead and held it almost to the end. Beau Leroux scored for the visitors in the 8th minute, and Austin did not reply until the 90th minute.
Leroux was set up by Niko Tsarkis for the opening goal, leaving Austin chasing the game. They dominated possession and territory but could not find a way through until a late equaliser in the 90th minute. Reid Roberts was booked in the 65th minute and Brad Stuver in the 87th.
The numbers show Austin were the more forceful side, with 53% possession, 16 shots to San Jose’s 10 and expected goals of 1.11 to 0.55. San Jose had only two shots on target but made the early breakthrough and protected it until deep into the match. Austin’s late goal was a fair reward for their pressure.
