Austin Brummett put Houston ahead in the 17th minute, and Miguel Perez doubled the lead in the 47th. Nighte Pickering pulled one back for Saint Louis in the 70th minute, with Riley Lynch providing the assist, and Zack Lillington levelled in the 85th to send the tie to penalties.
Saint Louis dominated possession with 61% and completed 533 accurate passes to Houston's 313, yet Houston had 13 shots to eight and six on target to three. The visitors created the clearer chances, and Saint Louis needed their late rally to avoid defeat.
