River Plate threw away a two-goal lead as Vélez Sarsfield fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in the Superliga. Ángel Correa and Thiago Silveor had River in control at the break, but two second-half strikes turned the game on its head.
Correa opened the scoring after 11 minutes from Lucas Martínez Quarta's assist, and Silveor doubled the lead two minutes before the interval. Diego Valdés pulled one back in the 61st minute, and Manuel Lanzini completed the comeback with 11 minutes remaining after a buildup involving Elías Gómez.
Despite enjoying 57% possession, River were second best for clear chances: Vélez had three big chances to River's none and finished with four shots on target to three. The visitors' expected-goals total of 0.76 was also higher than the hosts' 0.55, underlining that their comeback was built on sharper attacking work.
