The scoreline reflected Saint Louis's dominance: they had 15 shots to Real Monarchs' 8 and an expected-goals edge of 0.96 to 0.44, although possession was close at 52-48. Real Monarchs managed only two shots on target. Six yellow cards were shown in a physical contest.
