PSV Eindhoven beat Excelsior 2-1 in the Eredivisie. Ruben van Bommel's early strike gave them a platform, and Ricardo Pepi's response after Excelsior had levelled secured the victory.
Van Bommel opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Casper Widell pulled Excelsior level in the 54th, but Pepi restored PSV's lead two minutes later from Sergiño Dest's assist. Jan Plug was booked in the 88th.
The win matched the balance of play: PSV had 59% possession, 20 shots to five and an expected-goals figure of 2.21 against Excelsior's 0.32. Excelsior's goalkeeper made six saves to keep the deficit to one, but PSV's control was clear.
