Parma moved into the next round of the Coppa Italia with a 2-0 victory over Catania at home. Two first-half goals from Simone Lontani decided the tie, even though the visitors had the bulk of the ball.
Lontani opened the scoring in the 19th minute and added a second on 35, with El Bilal Touré assisting the latter. Catania pushed for a way back but Parma held firm, with Alessandro Quaini, Simone Leonardi and Franco Carboni all collecting yellow cards.
Catania dominated possession, recording 65% and completing 571 passes to Parma's 300, but Parma were far more efficient in front of goal, taking 12 shots with eight on target to Catania's six and two. The home side created three big chances and scored two of them, while Lontani's brace proved the difference.
