Palmeiras ran out convincing 4-1 winners over Vasco da Gama, but the scoreline flatters them a little. José López broke the deadlock in the 47th minute after a goalless first half, and Vitor Roque made it two just four minutes later. Maurício added a third in the 56th minute to put the result beyond doubt. López scored again in the 89th minute, and Facundo Colidio grabbed a late consolation for Vasco, who had threatened more than the scoreboard suggests.
Despite the comfortable margin, the underlying numbers were far closer: Palmeiras edged possession with 57% and had 13 shots to Vasco's 12, but expected goals were nearly level at 1.67 to 1.62. Vasco actually created three big chances to Palmeiras' two, yet converted only one. It was a day when Palmeiras took their chances and Vasco paid for missing theirs.
