Saginaw took it 3-2 in overtime in Mississauga, the one extra-period goal separating two teams that had traded leads all night. The Spirit erased a first-period deficit and then survived the Steelheads' answer in the third to force the extra frame.
Mississauga led 1-0 after 20 minutes, but Saginaw scored twice in the middle period to go up 2-1 and sit on a 1-2 scoreline heading to the third. The Steelheads got the equalizer in the third to make it 2-2 through regulation, and the turning point was that second-period swing that put Saginaw in front for the first time.
The decisive number is the period-by-period split: 1-0, 0-2, 1-0, then 0-1 in overtime. Saginaw's two-goal second period was the only multi-goal frame of the game, and it ultimately bought them the extra point.
