Eintracht Braunschweig thrashed 1. FC Magdeburg 6-1 in the 2. Bundesliga, helped by a devastating early spell. Herbert Bockhorn's red card in the 31st minute left Magdeburg chasing the game when they were already 3-0 down, and the home side went in 4-0 behind at the break.
Aaron Opoku opened the scoring from Max Marie's assist in the 15th minute, and Jan Urbich added two more, one set up by Marie and another by Samuele di Benedetto. Mehmet Aydın made it 0-4 just before half-time. Mateusz Żukowski pulled one back for Magdeburg in the 49th minute, but di Benedetto restored the four-goal lead a minute later and Florian Flick completed the scoring in the 61st minute.
The visitors dominated throughout, with 24 shots to 10, 13 on target to three, and an expected-goals count of 3.43 to 1.24. They also had 53% possession and created five big chances. Magdeburg's goalkeeper made eight saves, yet Braunschweig's three scored big chances and Urbich's double underlined the gulf.
