The opening set was a serve-swapping mess of breaks, with Lopez Morillo taking the last one at 4-6 to close it out. Pereira answered by winning five games in a row in the second, breaking at 4-3 and again at 6-3, before a chaotic third set in which he was broken at 0-1, 0-3 and 5-6, each time hitting back immediately, including at 6-6 to force the tiebreak.
Pereira's first serve was the constant: 82 of 107 in play (77%) against 58% for Lopez Morillo, and he saved four of six break points in the decider. Lopez Morillo actually won more return points overall (45 to 37) and 66% behind his second serve, but had nothing to show for it.
