P. Llamas Ruiz defeated F. Comesaña 6-3, 7-5 in straight sets at the Cancun Men Singles, converting five of six break points and saving three of six to keep the Argentine at bay. The Spaniard was far from flawless on serve, but won 42 service points to Comesaña's 27 and struck when it mattered.
Llamas Ruiz took control of the opener immediately, breaking in game 1 and again for 4-1, and although Comesaña pulled one break back, a third break at 6-3 sealed the set. The second set was a wild exchange of breaks: Comesaña edged ahead after game 3, Llamas Ruiz replied at 3-3, then the lead changed again before Llamas Ruiz’s decisive break in game 12 closed out the match.
The key number was break points saved: Llamas Ruiz saved half of the chances he faced (3/6), while Comesaña could only save one of six. Comesaña hit seven aces and no double faults, yet his second-serve return struggles and inability to hold under pressure proved decisive.
