Rinderknech came from a set down to beat Kecmanović 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 in Montreal, taking the last two sets with a single break each. He recovered well after losing the opening tiebreak.
The first set was a trade of breaks: Kecmanović broke at 1-0 and 3-4, Rinderknech at 1-1 and 1-3, before Kecmanović won the tiebreak. Rinderknech’s only break of the second set came at 3-4, and he closed it out 6-4. In the decider, he broke at 4-5 to end the match.
Rinderknech finished with 19 aces to Kecmanović’s three, saved 12 of 14 break points, and converted four of his 11 break chances. Kecmanović saved five of six break points in the third set, but the one he missed at 4-5 proved decisive.
