Ipswich Town beat Leicester City 3-1 in the EFL Cup second round, in a match they won despite seeing far less of the ball. Marcelino Núñez scored twice in the second half to settle the tie after Leicester had briefly drawn level. Leicester enjoyed 58% possession and 22 shots, but Ipswich were the more clinical side.
The opener came in the 62nd minute when Sindre Walle Egeli converted Jack Clarke's pass. Olabade Aluko equalised for Leicester in the 67th minute from Bobby Decordova-Reid's assist, only for Núñez to restore Ipswich's lead in the 71st minute with Chuba Akpom providing the pass. Núñez added his second and Ipswich's third in the 90th minute, assisted by Cameron Humphreys.
The standout stat is the contrast in output: Leicester had 22 shots to Ipswich's 14, but both teams managed nine on target and each goalkeeper made seven saves. Ipswich were caught offside 11 times to Leicester's one, yet it was Núñez's brace that made the difference. For all Leicester's pressure, Ipswich took their chances when it mattered.
