Sakatsume H. beat Kalinina A. 6-3, 6-3 at the US Open, powered by a clear edge in first-serve points and a sharp return game. Kalinina could not hold off the pressure once Sakatsume found her rhythm.
Kalinina broke in the opening game to lead 1-0, but Sakatsume levelled immediately and then broke again in game four, reeling off four straight games to take the first set 6-3. In the second set, Sakatsume broke in game one and sealed the match with another break in the final game, closing it out 6-3.
The decisive numbers came behind the first serve: Sakatsume won 74% of her first-serve points and 46% of first-serve returns, while Kalinina managed 53% and 25%. Sakatsume also finished with three aces to Kalinina's zero.
