KooKoo Kouvola won 5-3 in Klagenfurt on the back of a four-goal first period that effectively settled the game inside 20 minutes. KAC pushed back for the final 40 and got within one, but never pulled level.
The visitors scored at 11, 12, 16 and 18 minutes — Miska Siikonen, Ville Meskanen, Robert Rooba and Kim Nousiainen — for a 0-4 lead after the opening period. Thimo Nickl (33) and Nick Petersen (35) made it 2-4, and Jesper B. Jensen cut it to 3-4 at 43, but Siikonen answered in the same minute for 3-5, and that was the turning point of the comeback.
Siikonen finished with two goals, Meskanen with a goal and two assists, including the feed on the clinching marker. KooKoo's four-goal first period was the margin: Klagenfurt won the final two periods 3-1 and still lost by two.
