Dalila Jakupovic beat Nerea Sarganella Verdu 6-2, 6-3 at the WTA 125K event in Valencia, breaking serve five times across the two sets. The Spaniard managed three breaks of her own but held only two of her seven service games.
Jakupovic broke immediately in the opening game for 0-1 and again for 0-3; Sarganella Verdu hit back in game four at 1-3, but a further break at 2-5 closed out the set. The second set was a run of trades — Sarganella Verdu broke at 2-0, Jakupovic replied at 2-1 and 2-3, was pegged back at 3-3, then took the last two breaks at 3-4 and 3-6 to finish it.
The decisive number was on serve: Jakupovic won 24 of her service points to Sarganella Verdu's 19 and saved three of six break points, while the Spaniard saved only three of eight. Jakupovic also took 46% of first-serve return points against 37% for her opponent, and won 48 points in total to 39.
