NK Varaždin beat HNK Rijeka 2-0 in the 1. HNL, with Ivan Mamut scoring both goals. The hosts were outplayed for long spells but were clinical in front of goal.
Mamut opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing after Iuri Tavares set him up. He doubled the lead 11 minutes later, and Rijeka could not find a response despite having plenty of the ball. Gregor Sikošek was booked early on.
The stats show Rijeka dominated territory with 61% possession and 15 shots, but Varaždin created four big chances and converted two of them, giving an expected-goals advantage of 1.75 to 0.72. Mamut's brace was the difference.
