Grimsby Town edged out Exeter City 1-0 in League Two, with Harvey Rodgers' goal just after the half-hour mark proving decisive. The home side dominated the shot count, 20 to eight, yet could only manage a one-goal lead.
Rodgers struck from Charles Vernam's assist in the 35th minute to give Grimsby the lead. Exeter pushed for an equaliser and actually had the better of the big chances, two to one, but missed both. Jake Doyle Hayes and Cameron McJannett were booked before the break.
Possession was fairly even at 53 per cent to 47 per cent, with Grimsby completing 265 passes to Exeter's 244. The hosts had four shots on target to Exeter's two, yet the visitors will reflect on their two big chances going begging. A narrow win for Grimsby, who took one of their openings and held on.
