Maccabi Tel Aviv and FC Lugano drew 1-1 in the first leg of their Europa Conference League playoff. Maccabi led through Dor Peretz, but Lugano hit back through Dereck Moncada despite having had Mattia Zanotti sent off just before the hour.
Lugano were reduced to ten men on 58 minutes when Zanotti was shown a second yellow. Maccabi took the lead on 69 minutes as Peretz scored, but their advantage lasted only ten minutes — Moncada levelled from Yanis Cimignani's assist.
Maccabi dominated the statistics, with 60% possession and 19 shots to Lugano's nine. Lugano's goalkeeper made five saves, and Maccabi had to settle for a draw.
