Edmonton got out of Winnipeg with a 2-1 overtime win, decided 62 minutes in when Viljami Marjala finished off a Zach Hyman feed. Everything after the opening period was scoreless until that shift.
Alex Iafallo opened it at 14 minutes, converting a Nino Niederreiter setup for 1-0, and Atro Leppanen answered two minutes later off a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assist. The middle and third periods produced nothing on the scoreboard — 1-1 after 20, after 40, after 60 — and the turning point was simply which side got the first clean look in the extra frame.
Marjala's 62nd-minute winner is the number that matters: the only goal scored across the final 46 minutes of hockey. Hyman's assist on it and Nugent-Hopkins' on the equalizer gave Edmonton a helper on each of its goals.
