Independiente Medellín won 3-2 at Deportes Tolima in Primera A, Apertura, after starting at lightning pace. Daniel Cataño scored inside the first minute and John Edwin Montaño made it 2-0 in the sixteenth, a lead the visitors never let slip.
Sebastián Guzmán pulled a goal back for Tolima in the 56th minute, but Juan Cordoba restored Medellín's two-goal cushion a minute later. Junior Hernández made it 3-2 with a goal in the 84th minute, setting up a nervous finish for the visitors. Joaquin Varela was shown a red card on the hour mark.
Deportes Tolima controlled the statistics, with 66 per cent possession, 21 shots and an expected-goals figure of 2.59 to Medellín's 1.50. Even so, Independiente Medellín were the sharper side in front of goal, scoring three times from five shots on target. Their goalkeeper made eight saves to help secure the points.
