Vasco da Gama came from behind to beat Olimpia 4-1 away in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana Round of 16, taking firm control of the tie. Esteban Matus put Olimpia ahead in the 15th minute, but Vasco replied with four goals at the other end.
Thiago Mendes equalised in the 29th minute, set up by David, and David then turned the match around seven minutes later, scoring from Puma Rodríguez's pass. Adson made it 3-1 in the 70th minute after combining with Thiago Mendes, and Claudio Spinelli completed the scoring in the 84th minute, again assisted by Puma Rodríguez.
Olimpia actually had more of the ball – 57% possession – and the same number of shots as Vasco, 14 apiece, but Vasco were far more clinical. Vasco's expected-goal total of 2.16 dwarfed Olimpia's 0.70, and they put nine shots on target to Olimpia's seven, with the 4-1 scoreline reflecting their edge in the final third.
