Banfield edged Sarmiento 3-2 in a lively Superliga contest at the Estadio Florencio Sola. The home side raced into a three-goal lead by the 82nd minute, only for Sarmiento to roar back with two quick strikes, but Banfield held on for the win.
The scoring began in the 53rd minute when Tiziano Perrota put Banfield ahead, then added a second six minutes later, both assisted by David Zalazar and Tomás Adoryan respectively. Bruno Sepúlveda made it 3-0 on 82 minutes, but Sarmiento responded instantly: Jonathan Herrera pulled one back in the 84th minute and Junior Marabel made it 3-2 two minutes later. Banfield’s Juan Manuel Insaurralde was booked in the 78th minute.
Despite enjoying only 38% possession and completing fewer passes (157 to 283), Banfield were more efficient in attack, registering 14 shots to Sarmiento’s 10 and six on target to three. Perrota’s brace was the difference as Banfield took their chances, with a higher expected goals (0.93 to 0.65) and two big chances to Sarmiento’s one.
