Baez beat Pacheco Méndez 6-4, 6-3 in Cancun, sealing the win with a late break in the first set and another in the second. He won 62 total points to 50 and held serve in eight of his nine service games.
The first set was decided in game 10, when Baez broke to take it 6-4. In the second, he broke for 2-0, only for Pacheco Méndez to pull to 4-3 with a break; Baez responded by breaking at 5-3 and closed out the match.
Baez was strong behind his first serve, winning 78% of those points, and claimed 24 returning points in all. Pacheco Méndez saved seven of nine break points, but Baez still found the breaks that mattered.
