Atlético Mineiro took the points away from home, beating Palmeiras 2-1 at the Allianz Parque. Despite being outplayed for long spells, the visitors were far more clinical in front of goal, scoring twice from just four shots on target.
Victor Hugo opened the scoring for Atlético in the 54th minute, slotting home from close range. Palmeiras cranked up the pressure and finally levelled through Felipe Anderson in the 75th minute, but their joy lasted only two minutes as Igor Gomes restored Atlético's lead almost immediately, heading in from a corner.
The numbers paint a stark picture: Palmeiras had 69% possession, 22 shots to Atlético's eight, and completed 585 passes to just 210. Yet Atlético created three big chances to Palmeiras' one and goalkeeper Everson made five saves to keep his side ahead. It was a textbook smash-and-grab away performance.
