Union Berlin recovered from going behind twice to win 2-4 at Eintracht Braunschweig in the DFB Pokal first round. Max Marie put the hosts in front twice, but Union responded both times and took control with three second-half goals.
Marie opened the scoring in the 11th minute from Maximilian Entrup's pass, and Zeno Van Den Bosch equalised for Union on 31 minutes. Marie struck again on 54, again from Entrup, but Tom Rothe drew Union level on 63. Marin Ljubičić put Union ahead for the first time on 72, and a fourth goal arrived in the 90th minute to complete the scoring.
Union won despite having only 37% possession and completing 197 passes to Braunschweig's 421. They were more clinical, registering nine shots on target to five and scoring from all three of their big chances. Marie's two goals were the home side's main threat, but Union's efficiency settled the tie.
