Yibing W. beat Walton A. 7-6, 6-2, 7-5 at the US Open, taking the key chances on return to turn a close serving contest his way. Yibing converted four break points to Walton's two and saved five of seven break points faced, enough to offset Walton's greater power on serve.
The opener saw four breaks, with Yibing moving ahead 4-2 in game five only for Walton to reply, then break again at 5-6; Yibing levelled at 6-6 and took the tiebreak. Set two swung decisively when Yibing broke in game three for 2-1 and again in game seven to close it out 6-2. In the decider, a single break by Yibing at 6-5 in game eleven settled it.
Walton fired 14 aces to Yibing's eight and landed a higher percentage of first serves (66% to 58%), yet his second serve proved costly: he won only 13 of 33 second-serve points, while Yibing took 23 of 41. Yibing finished with 12 service games won from 14 and four breaks overall.
