Wolverhampton progressed to the third round of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday. Two first-half goals, one inside the opening three minutes and another just before the interval, settled the tie.
Sil Swinkels headed Wolves in front from a corner after three minutes, and Saheed Olagunju doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time, Tommy Doyle supplying the assist. Jarvis Thornton and Boubacar Traoré were both booked in the first half.
The stats were closer than the scoreline suggests, with Wolves shading possession (52%) and shots (13 to 11) while both sides had three shots on target. The visitors also won six corners to two and converted their one big chance.
