Wolf J.J. came from a set down to beat Matsuoka H. 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the Vancouver Men Singles. Wolf’s serve came under pressure throughout, but he answered by saving six of seven break points.
Matsuoka grabbed the opener with a break in game seven and closed it out 6-4. Wolf levelled the match in the second, saving both break points he faced before breaking in game 12 to win 7-5. In the decider, Wolf broke in game four to lead 3-1 and held on to take the set 6-3.
The standout was Wolf’s work under pressure: he saved 6/7 break points and did not face one in the deciding set. Matsuoka hit 12 aces to Wolf’s seven, but converted only one break point all match.
