Excelsior ended Willem II Tilburg's resistance with a comfortable 3-0 away win in the Eredivisie. Early pressure told inside eight minutes when David Garden put the visitors ahead, and Excelsior never looked back.
Garden struck from Irakli Yegoian's assist to make it 0-1, and Rick Meissen doubled the lead on 34 minutes from Simon Janssen's delivery. Yegoian sealed the victory in the 85th minute, converting after Stijn van Gassel set him up, while Willem II had Kasper Boogaard, Jaden Slory and Nesto Groen booked.
Willem II actually saw more of the ball with 57% possession and fired 13 shots to Excelsior's 10, but mustered only one shot on target. Excelsior were far more clinical, registering four on target from an expected-goals total of 1.49 to the hosts' 0.55, and they turned two big chances into goals.
