Simona Waltert defeated Kristina Quevedo 7-5, 6-2 to advance at the Bastad tournament. The Swiss player overcame a slow start, rallying from a break down in the first set before dominating the second with relentless return pressure.
The opening set featured five breaks of serve. Quevedo broke for 3-2 and again for 5-2, but Waltert struck back immediately at 5-3, levelled at 5-5 with another break, and clinched the set on her third break at 5-7. The second set was even more one-sided: Waltert broke in the second game for 0-2, lost the break back for 1-2, but broke again for 1-3 and 2-4 before sealing the win with a fifth break of the set at 2-6.
Waltert served at 66% first serves and won 72% of those points in the second set, while Quevedo managed just 30% on her first serve in the decider. Overall, Waltert converted six of ten break points and won 37 of 59 service points, keeping her opponent to only 22 service points won.
